Redcliffe Reigns Again: Dolphins Claim First BRL Title Since 2016

A packed crowd and overcast conditions set the stage for a memorable day of community rugby league as the Rugby League Brisbane BRL Grand Finals were held at BMD Kougari Oval. The event showcased the best of grassroots footy, with high-quality contests and passionate support from fans across the region.

The Chook Pen, BMD Kougari Oval’s iconic venue bar, was buzzing throughout the day — full of spectators proudly wearing their club colours and cheering on their teams, adding to the electric atmosphere.

BRL Grand Final

The Redcliffe Dolphins capped off a dominant season with a 32-12 victory over the Carina Tigers. Redcliffe, who were 2025 BRL Minor Premiers and had remained undefeated against Carina all season, stamped their authority early and led 18-6 at halftime. They continued their momentum in the second half, with Thomas Casey earning Player of the Match honours for a commanding performance.

Casey’s effort was all the more impressive given it was his first game back since Round 17, having missed five weeks due to injury. His return in the Grand Final added composure and spark to Redcliffe’s attack, culminating in a try and a standout all-round performance.

Redcliffe’s other try scorers included Caleb Jackson (2), Montel Lisala, and Steven Numambo, while Michael McGrath converted all six attempts. Carina’s tries came from Kenneth Taviri and Noah Natapu, with Natapu also adding two goals.

The win marked Redcliffe’s first BRL title since 2016, a fitting reward for a season of consistency and resilience.

It was also a milestone for Dunamis Lui, who claimed his first BRL title in his debut season as Head Coach, after serving as assistant coach in 2024. His leadership and experience proved invaluable in guiding the Dolphins to premiership glory.

Reserve Grade Grand Final

The Carina Tigers pulled off a gritty 18-16 win over the Brighton Roosters. Brighton had finished the regular season as Minor Premiers, but Carina had their measure in both the Grand Final Qualifier and again in the decider. Carina led 12-10 at the break and held firm in a tense second half.

Charlie Kwock-Sun Barker was named Player of the Match for the second consecutive year, backing up his 2024 performance with another standout display in 2025.

Carina’s tries came from Jesse White, Jay Sahlqvist, and Zaen Edmonds, with goals added by Harry Spragg (2) and Jaffahl Soe. Brighton responded with tries to Javen Gyemore, Mitch Rogers, and Inga Limoni, while Gyemore kicked two goals.
